Seed ‘U’ Volunteers, These are our knowledge people. Give instruction on how to use envelopes, write information or take pictures of seed packets when useful. Experienced gardeners are able, not only to answer questions about seeds and plants, but help guests select the right quantity and type of seed for their situation. But don’t worry – no one knows all there is to know, that’s why there are lots of volunteers with you in the ‘U’, if you feel stumped just ask the person next to you. Someone is likely to have an answer and if not, that’s ok too. We all come to learn. Even seed ‘U’ volunteers! |
Volunteer benefits:
- Early, starting at 10 am, access to the seed exchange with your fellow volunteers.
That’s one full hour before the public opening! - Reserved lounge to sip coffee and nosh specially made baked goods, and soups, away
from the bustle of the exchange hall - Make personal connections with longtime northwest gardeners
- Help pass the love of seed saving and gardening on to others
- Make it possible for farmers and small businesses to connect with local gardeners.
And get the inside scoop in those farms and businesses
Volunteer duties: your choices
As you arrive at the school please use the front entrance and quickly locate the volunteer check in. Please sign in and pick up your name tag. You will find detailed instructions and your days schedule attached. If you have any questions please ask for Shannon Demiter or Linda Shepherd, or you might ask the person who had the position just before you if they can help.
Greeters, one of the most important positions, your goal will be to help orient guests and inform them of the days activities. You will also find yourself directing volunteers to the sign in, exhibitors and demonstrators to their area’s as well as coaching everyone on exchange etiquette.
Rove, unique and Important. Think of this like a host position. Check in with everyone from vendors and exhibitors to the Seed Cafe checking to see if anything is needed and fill that need. Often an exhibitor will need a bathroom break and you just watch their display for a time, or if they haven’t been able to get away bringing them a cup of coffee or slice of pie gives them the lift they need to keep smiling until the end of the day.
Set up, help turn an ordinary high school hall into a lively seed exchange. Tables must be set and dressed, catalogs and seeds put on display, vendors and exhibitors brought in and set up. There is literally loads to do, and many hands make light work!
Clean up/ tear down, the successful completion of this last task ensures we are welcome guests in this space another year. Please consider giving your time at the end of the day to say thank you by returning this space to a condition better than when we found it.
